How many photos of the damage are needed?

More than most people take. Overview shots from all four sides, close-ups of every damaged area with a scale object, wider shots showing the surroundings, plus the odometer and the vehicle identification number. Daylight and a dry surface make the images far more usable.

The window has stopped working since the impact. Is that part of the claim?

Yes, once the cause is established. A regulator with a bent rail, a broken cable or a motor that lost its position all give the same symptom, and only removing the trim shows which it is. Record it during the inspection rather than discovering it after the panel work is finished.

The learner was driving. Does that change the technical findings?

No. Damage extent, repair method and value are established the same way regardless of who held the wheel. Who is responsible in a lesson, and how that is settled, is decided by the insurers and, where it is disputed, by a lawyer. The report describes the vehicle, not the roles.

Can any workshop repair a damaged electric vehicle?

Only a workshop with high-voltage qualified staff may de-energise the system and work near the pack. Body and glass work on the same car is ordinary. This is why the repair method matters in the report: it decides which part of the job needs a qualified shop and which does not.

A warning light came on after the impact. Does that prove exhaust damage?

Not on its own. A lambda or emissions warning can follow a damaged sensor, a disturbed connector, a leak at a joint or an unrelated fault that was already present. The fault memory is read with time stamps and compared with the physical findings, because only the two together carry any weight.

Damage happened on the drive home. Where should the vehicle be inspected?

Where it stands, and before it is moved again or repaired. A vehicle on temporary plates is often hundreds of kilometres from both its old and its new home, and every further transport adds marks that are hard to separate from the original ones. Photographs on the spot settle that question cheaply.

My car did not burn but stood next to one that did. Is that damage?

Yes, and it is a damage category of its own. Soot and heat settle on paint, glass, seals and the interior, and warm plastic parts can deform without any flame reaching them. Have it documented before the car is washed, because washing removes the deposits that show how close the heat came.

In what order should I contact the workshop, the insurer and the expert?

The expert first, the workshop second. Once repairs start, the original condition can no longer be documented and the extent of damage stays open to dispute. Reporting the claim to the insurer can run in parallel and does not require a finished report.
