Why does electric power steering appear in the estimate when nothing was hit there?

Because on most modern cars the assistance sits on the rack or the column and moves with it. An impact that displaces either one also loads the motor housing and its sensor, and the control unit stores that in its own memory. The reading is a finding and belongs in the report next to the visible damage.

What does the printout actually prove?

That on a given date, at named points, the shell was or was not within specification. That is a great deal and it is also all of it. The printout does not say who caused the deviation, when it arose or whether an earlier event contributed. Those questions are answered from the whole file, not from the sheet.

My car has three times the mileage of a private one. Does that ruin the valuation?

It lowers it, but not as bluntly as people expect. High-mileage vehicles of the same model form their own market, and buyers there read service history more than the odometer. What matters is that the record is complete and that the wear matches the distance shown.

Which temporary measures make technical sense?

Covering an opening against rain, securing a loose panel or bumper so that it cannot come off in traffic, fitting the spare wheel, and leaving alone anything you do not understand. The aim is a vehicle that can be moved safely, not a vehicle that looks better.

Who is entitled to order an assessment of the vehicle?

That is a legal question and it differs from country to country, so it belongs with a recommended lawyer and, where relevant, with the authority handling the estate. What can be said technically is simpler: an inspection can be carried out and documented, and the question of who may use the resulting document is answered elsewhere.

Does this duty mean choosing the cheapest option every time?

No. It means choosing a reasonable one and being able to show why. The cheapest workshop three hundred kilometres away is not reasonable if a comparable one is nearby, and the nearest is not reasonable if it cannot do the work. Reasonableness is judged on the day, not afterwards.

What is worth anything in a car that is only fit for dismantling?

Specific parts rather than weight. The side opposite the impact usually holds most of the value: doors, glass, lamps and seats. Catalytic converters, particulate filters, control modules, a set of wheels and a traction battery all have their own market. Accessories fitted after purchase count separately.

Does the excess apply once per claim or once per damaged part?

Normally once per claim, which is why the number of separate claims matters more than most people expect. Two events a month apart are two claims and two excesses, even when the damage sits on the same panel. Keeping the events apart in the documentation is therefore worth the effort from the first day.
